For my own future reference, and also for the further edumacation (learn me a book!) of my flist, I'm going to explain how I constructed my current LJ header, and how I worked out the coding for that navigation.

The header directions are rather vague so one could apply some of the ideas to something other than Photoshop, but as a result of that vagueness, a little knowledge of what you're doing is helpful to apply it.

The navigation directions assumes that you aren't assuming you'll come out of it knowing exactly what's going on if you didn't have much of an idea going in. But, it should hopefully at least explain enough to be useable if you were to try and do something similar.
