Life's kicked me around
I've been lost more often than found
I grew up in a small town
Full of people happy to shove me down
I've been hurt and I've been abandoned
Hard landed
Underestimated
Intimidated
I'm not always quick to open up to anybody
I've been prone to hide away from everybody

Will you be the one to save me?
Let's not play a game of love-me hate-me
Excuse my lack of patience with you
I just can't find anyone I feel close to

I think too much of myself sometimes
I've walked many lines
I've gotten a clean slate
I wonder if it may someday be too late
Begging for that forgiveness every night
But there can never be an end, right?
Right?

Will you be the one to save me?
Let's not play a game of love-me hate-me
Excuse my lack of patience with you
I just can't find anyone I'm close to

I've seen the blinding light
In my heart it burns bright
It should sustain me
But when I feel like everyone hates me
I fall
On pain
Again.

And more I begin.

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
can you help me unravel my latest mistake,
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track,we're like cars on a cable
and life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button girl,
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breathe

May he turn 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
Just a day, he sat down to the flask in his fist,
Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year.
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breathe

There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
'Cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
These mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, its no longer
inside of me, threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
oh breathe, just breathe.

Mmmm

Wanna know what I've been doing on these late nights? Here's an excerpt from Chapter 3:

Before she knew it it was lunch, glorious lunch where she was ungloriously lost. Students went all over, Daveigh had no idea what she was looking for. She twisted the cheap beaded bracelet on her wrist, a nervous habit. Why couldn't she have brought a bag lunch?
Of course, inevitably, she had to ask someone. She found the deaf boy from History sitting down at a table, and decided to ask him rather than deal with a stranger again- she didn't want a repeat of the incident in the hall, even though she didn't know how you were supposed to talk to a deaf person. She couldn't sign, but then again, how would he understand the teacher? He could probably lip read, she decided.
Nathan looked up when he saw her coming. "Hey." she said, rubbing the back of her neck. "No one gave me any info on this cafeteria situation... Help me?" She bit her lip at what a fool she sounded.
"You're talking too fast." he said, shaking his head. "Do you need help getting your lunch?" he asked. She noticed his tone didn't rise much at the end of the question. Daveigh didn't even realize people did that, interesting the things you notice in their absence. She nodded in response to his question.

Yes, a Illinois native coming to Wisconsin and befriending a deaf boy. Gave me a reason to learn the signed alphabet and a handful of words in ASL!
