OMFG

I was just on broadwayworld.com

And I got a [tos] banner AND rectangular ad.

That TALK.

And the highlights include Jeff correcting Hunter's grammar.

AND THEN MME POINTED OUT THAT THERE'S ANOTHER ONE WITH ALL FOUR AND IT'S AMAZING.

I LOVE THAT SHOW.

BEST AD CAMPAIGN EVER.

Sometime soon I'll, you know, talk about HOWZ I GOT FAMOUS ON GAIAONLINE.

So, I JUST watched Legally Blonde on MTV.

My initial reaction: I am impressed.

I'm going to get killed for this, but Legally Blonde succeeds where Wicked fails for me. Both are very cutesy shows with catchy songs (though, I don't think Legally Blonde's songs are very strong) and are very fun. However, Wicked's story is weak in comparison, full of plot holes, while Legally Blonde's story, though predictable and maybe even less deep than Wicked, works (well, works better, anyway -- there are definitely things one has to let slip by). I will not criticize a cute, light-hearted musical for being cute and light-hearted when that's what they're going for -- and as far as cute and light-hearted musicals go, Legally Blonde does it well.

So, though those aren't the kinds of musicals I gravitate towards I give it my respect. If MTV could've picked any musical to try this experiment with, Legally Blonde was a good choice -- not TOO musical theatre-y and deep for an MTV audience to be unwilling to sit through, a story that people know and like coming in, but not a bad musical either -- certainly better than High School Musical.

I approve.

Laura Bell Bundy? Not THE strongest actress and singer, certainly ([livejournal.com profile] labellacaracol called her the poor man's Kristin Chenoweth -- if she doesn't mind me quoting her XD), but she sold it. With a musical I am not so invested in I'm not going to complain.

Also, you know I love Spring Awakening, but though I don't know if *Legally Blonde* deserved it (I'm not familiar enough with the other nominees), this only further confirms to me that Bill T. Jones did not deserve the Tony Award for Spring Awakening's choreography. That is all.

LOOK AT #7.

...THEN LOOK AT #8

:0000

Shock aside -- Elaine Paige has a TV show? It's probably worth looking into which of these musicals Elaine Paige has been in :P

But that list wins just for mentioning Leroux.

Update: Elaine Paige has been in 5 of the 10 musicals on that list.

So, I have the OLCR of Chess now. Or, well, the London Concept Recording. Whatever.

My Opinion )

The power of music is amazing.

I'm listening to 'Glöm mig om du kan' from the Swedish production of Chess (This is a song that is new to the Swedish version). And though I've read the lyrics and a summary of it before, I hardly remember them... but I don't really need to. Even without knowing exactly what is going on, the feeling it inspires is the same.

Even if, knowing what it's about, I feel it's an unnecessary song addition XD

And did I mention the Swedish version of Chess is goooorgeous? With the exception of a couple songs, the music of Chess really is gorgeous even if the story has issues, and you can hardly guess that it was composed by two former members of ABBA... ;P

Not to mention it's quality level raises a surprising amount with the absence of 'One Night In Bangkok' XD (Besides, the only thing that song is good for is the line, "I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine!" and I wouldn't be able to understand that in Swedish anyway)
