For those unawares, Switchfoot is my favorite band of all time. And I'm on a bit of a Switchfoot kick tonight, and I was just amusing myself watching oooold music videos of theirs. Most people know them from around 2003/2004 with "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move", but they've been putting out albums since 1997. Here's one of my favorite oldskool songs of theirs, "Company Car" from their 1999 CD New Way To Be Human -- a much lighter sound than what they're known for now. THEY'RE SO YOUNG AND CUTE I WANT TO PINCH THEIR CHEEKS.

I think they're at their best musically right now with their latest album, Hello Hurricane, and I highly recommend it.

In life news I've been pretty unproductive the past couple days -- hopefully tomorrow I'll recover.

So I'm on TV Tropes, and I ended up on the "I Have No Son" page and was like OOH I HAVE A SPRING AWAKENING EXAMPLE for this and as often happens to me because believe it or not there are other people who like SA on the internet besides me, the example was already on there. But I like, almost loled at the fact that someone made a comment on the example.

I think the italics contributes quite a bit to the hilarity I get from that.

I also love this from the SA page:

I will now try and combat the volume of Spring Awakening talk in this post with a video completely unrelated to SA of Jon Foreman, who is quite possibly one of if not my favorite songwriter, playing a free show in a coffee shop:

I love Switchfoot. I love Jon Foreman.

This was the song I was most looking forward to on the new album and this is... one of the best performances they've given on a talk show ever. So gorgeous, and surprise Jon on piano instead of guitar! Still my favorite band ever. Srys.

Wow. Day 12. THIS MONTH IS GOING BY SO FAST.

Current word count is 14057.

I've been listening to a lot of Hello Hurricane today. So good. So good. AND Switchfoot performed on Jimmy Kimmel tonight and they sounded really great. Jon sounds a little odd in parts, particularly the lower stuff, like not himself -- anyone else hear that? Edit: Switchfoot Expert Bertha did. She commented right away that Jon was sounding like he needed to clear his throat or something.

(And I can usually admit when they don't sound great -- and they tend to have bad luck playing talk shows and things, so, this is good.)

The description says "Switchfoot Perform "Mess of Me" on Jimmy Kimmel Live." *PERFORMS ? And this is like, the show's official channel.

I WROTE A LITTLE TODAY.

Pathetically not enough, but I wrote SOMETHING. Unfortunately I couldn't go to the write in because it was too much of a hassle for Mom to pick me up and such :(

AT LEAST the worst part of my week is over and over the weekend I have no excuses not to be productive.

My word count is now 12292.

IN OTHER NEWS I've been listening to Hello Hurricane, Switchfoot's new CD. OVER 10 YEARS AND THEY ARE STILL KICKING ASS. And Jon Foreman is still one of my favorite songwriters ever. The first standout song to me (besides Mess of Me and The Sound which I already was familiar with) is "Yet".

Yeah, if it doesn't break your heart it isn't love
Now if it doesn't break your heart it's not enough
It's when you're breaking down with your insides coming out
It's when you find out what your heart is made up of

Very "The Beautiful Letdown."

ALSO "Always" which was the song whose preview clip thing on their vlog made me most excited for this album.

In other other news, several things:

1) HSOWA lmao what
2) I've been OBSESSED with Regina Spektor's cover of Hallelujah and also School Is Out (again).
3) MELCHIOR
4) My e-mail is being weird today. Just a warning. I'm getting e-mails from like this morning trickling in still (not just LJ e-mails, all e-mails) and haven't gotten some LJ notifications yet, and may not be getting new ones on time either -- right after writing this I just got a notification from around 2 PM on the 11th. It's currently around 6 am on the 12th. Yeah.
5) I think that's all I wanted to share

Bertha and I have differing opinions on this song, probably more differing than on most of Jon's/Switchfoot's songs (Jon Foreman, that is, not John Gallagher, Jr. KEEP UP WITH MY SONGWRITING LOVES), but I think it's pretty safe to say, regardless, that this is one of the best performances of Let Your Love Be Strong that he's ever done. In delicious solo acoustic.

I'm feeling restless so you get some songs and videos.

I'm in love with this song today, so you get two live versions of it:

This one's clear and nice but the first line gets cut off: Jon Foreman - Betrayal

This one's not as clear and you hear a little crowd singing and all, but he's accompanied by another guitar, a cello, and a violin. Yesss: Jon Foreman - Betrayal (at Switchfoot Bro-Am)

Also, you know, I love my bands, Switchfoot and all, but there's something powerful about one man and an acoustic guitar.
So here's two videos of Jon singing Switchfoot songs acoustically (Let Your Love Be Strong and Awakening) )

Bertha dislikes Let Your Love Be Strong because it's "boring", however, she does occasionally adore a sad song. This is particularly evidenced by the fact that one of her favorite songs off Switchfoot's latest CD is a song about losing someone. I don't care for this brand of depressing, but it might be good for the depressingdeadpeoplewriting some of you do, so I shall share: Switchfoot - Yesterdays (This is a live, ~legal~ soundboard recording from a concert, and the first half is just an intro).

...but if I share any song off Switchfoot Bootlegs, I also have to share this one, possibly my favorite Switchfoot song currently (and Jon intros it by saying it's one of his favorite songs, and he's said it's his wife's favorite song). Daisy. The live performance beats out the CD, and the CD version is already gorgeous.

I never thought I'd consider a song that includes any screaming to be gorgeous XD
