Some early morning ramblings
Apr. 12th, 2007 01:28 amSo, earlier tonight I was sort of bitching to the chat about how we shouldn't have made these plans to do two shows this month and I'm going crazy trying to write two scripts at once -- one of which I have to write from iffy-quality audio as opposed to a libretto like usua. Though I didn't tell anyone, I was having thoughts about just scrapping this double show thing until next month and reviving an old show instead. But, I was listening to my MP3 player on shuffle and none other than A Way Back To Then from [title of show] came on, and I was struck by these lines:
And when you least expect
Opportunity walks through the door
You suddenly connect with the thing that you forgot
That you've been looking for
And there you are
Right in the middle of what you love
With the craziest of company
You're having a kick-ass time
And being who you wanted to be in this world
And I remember how it is that we've managed to keep this little fan project going for nearly a year now. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with the script writing for the GTC -- I love moving things around and figuring out how to fit things together so they work for us, but then I hit lots of dull spots where I'm just copy down lyrics and being bothered by the fact that though I put all this work into the scripts they certainly aren't mine (Except for the Phantom script -- but that certainly isn't an original idea :P). I feel much better playing the director than I do the scriptwriter, but at the same time I'm anal and I don't like other people touching my scripts... However, when it comes time for that opening night show, with an audience full of friends and strangers and then the night comes to an end and they're all standing and "applauding"... It's worth all the pain of these work weeks. It's a lot of fun to act in these shows but, for me at least, it's most thrilling to know that we're actually... entertaining people. That there are people who are willing to sit and stare at their monitors for two hours and watch us. It really is an amazing concept and not one I ever expected to work at all -- certainly not to the success we've gotten.
