Pre-NaNo: Sanity Check
Nov. 1st, 2009 02:47 amSo here we are, in the first hours of November 2009. And so begins NaNoWriMo, where I get to join over 100,000 writers worldwide attempting to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. And we all know, as we set out on this journey together, that whether we win or lose, we will not be quite the same people on December 1st as we are on November 1st.
It is a tradition of mine that every year I put a quotation at the top of my document. It often changes as the month goes by, but it's important to at least have one to start, so I don't have to face a wall of white.
This year, my first quotation is:
In 50,000 words I will introduce people. And then I will lay them open, turn their worlds upside down, and bang them against each other. And if come December 1st I won't be the same person I was November 1st, well, neither will they.
See you on the other side.

Write down the thoughts of the moment. Those that come unsought for are commonly the most valuable. ~Francis Bacon
