So I was sitting here paging through the bare CD booklet as I was looking for a good lyric to change my MSN personal text to. And I stumble across this page...

Date: 2008-01-07 05:14 pm (UTC)And -- what's the point of establishing Jason as an enormous asshole, essentially removing any ability for anyone to feel sorry for him in any way -- and then turn around and have him sing Cross/Once Upon a Time and kill himself? You alienate the audience from him and then make him a source of emotional vulnerability. I guess I can see the shock factor, like Ivy and her baby, but I could really do without that whole thing. Not hearing much from Jason's point of view until Cross/Once Upon a Time is interesting enough. It builds you up until you wonder what's driving him at all, but if you make him too evil, no one's going to care. Which would be really terrible considering Jason and Ivy are the most tragic characters in the play. For all his talk of Jason being a hero, Peter turns out to be the strong one in the end. Then again, maybe Jason is a sort of hero -- a tragic one who winds up dying as a result of his own character flaws.
